About TokenMeter
TokenMeter is a free developer tool that answers one question well: “What will this prompt — and this product — actually cost to run?” It combines a real BPE token counter with a cost calculator covering OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models, so you can go from pasted text to a monthly budget figure in one flow, without a spreadsheet and without signing up for anything.
How the numbers are produced
Token counts come from the open-source gpt-tokenizer library running entirely in your browser, using the genuine cl100k_base and o200k_base BPE encodings. Costs use the standard formula: (input tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × input price) + (output tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × output price), scaled by your request volume. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
Sources — checked 30 Oct 2026
Every default price on this site was read from the provider's official pricing page on 30 Oct 2026:
- OpenAI API pricing — platform.openai.com/docs/pricing (Standard tier, per 1M tokens)
- Anthropic Claude pricing — docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/about-claude/pricing (base input/output per MTok)
- Google Gemini Developer API pricing — ai.google.dev/pricing (Paid tier, Standard mode, per 1M tokens; tier and promotional-window notes are shown in the table where the page lists them)
Honesty notes
Prices change, and two of the Google rates above are promotional prices with future increases already published on Google's page — the table flags both. Token counts are exact for OpenAI models using the selected encoding; for Claude and Gemini they are estimates, because those providers tokenize differently. All figures on this site are estimates for planning, not billing guarantees.
